In case of emergency, it's always useful to have these items in your home:

If there is a fire in your home, get out and stay outside. Call the fire service as soon as you are safe.
If you smell gas, do not touch light switches or use any electrical items. Switch off the gas supply - make sure you know how to! Call your gas supplier for assistance. Open windows and doors.
If you have a burst pipe turn the water off at the stop valve. Turn off the gas central heating and telephone a plumber.
If there is a power cut, check to see if other houses are affected or if it's just you. Switch off electrical appliances and call your electricity company. Bear in mind that power failures that affect a street or an estate will happen from time to time, and are usually very temporary.
In cases of emergencies you may need to call the fire brigade police or ambulance. If this is the case cal 999. If it is a non emergency but you need to report something call 101.
Your mobile telephone could be vital in an emergency, make sure you always have credit on it.
